Caitlin Clark has been the talk of the WNBA blocks since her switch from the Iowa Hawkeyes to the Indiana Fever. Despite a tough start to her WNBA career, the rookie has maintained her usual high standards. After the Chennedy Carter drama, Clark seems to be under increased scrutiny as she became a polarizing figure among the fans and even in the media. With everyone dipping their hands into the Caitlin Clark hype stream, former NBA Champion Michael Porter Jr. did the same.
During a recent episode of the “Full Send Podcast”, MPJ opened up about her assessment of Caitlin Clark. The Nuggets forward said, “Caitlin is cold. That is the one girl, if she was in an NBA game – on defense she would get cooked, but offensively she’ll knock down some corner threes or like a swing, swing three. She can shoot from that far.”
Porter Jr. came up with this answer when the co-host asked if there was anyone in the WNBA who could score against him. He even disapproved of a controversial matter regarding men competing in the women’s game and vice versa.
Caitlin Clark’s shooting has often drawn comparisons with Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry. This season, CC is shooting well below her normal standards, with only 32.7% from downtown.
While all the media attention was fixated on the rookie with exponentially increasing revenues and viewership, her axe from the Women’s USA Team for the Paris Olympics came as a surprise to many and, according to Fever coach, this just flicked a switch inside Caitlin Clark.
Christie Sides, of the Fever, Clark was a little more candid.
WNBA Should Brace for Monstrous Caitlin Clark
Following her omission from the Olympics roster, Caitlin Clark handled the situation with maturity. The Fever guard wished her peers well for the tournament and shrugged off the disappointment of not being given the chance to show her worth. With the stacked team of the USA women’s team, there wasn’t much room for her to begin with, but the expectations were always there.
According to Fever HC, Christie Sides, Clark told her about her feelings after the snub. “Hey coach, they woke a monster,” Sides revealed to the press. Sides received the text with Clark’s statement following the team announcement.
On Tuesday, the Fever will re-enter the court against the Connecticut Sun following their win over the Washington Mystics on Saturday. So far, Caitlin Clark and Co. have a 3-9 record following a torrid start to the season. But with time, the Fever is turning the tide as they’ve won 2 of their last 3 games, with Clark getting her 2nd 30-point haul in her short WNBA career. The Olympics break will pause the WNBA season till August, which might serve as a good respite for the laser-focused rookie.
