Kansas City Chiefs Defend Controversial Signing of Wide Receiver Amidst Gameplan Leaking Allegations
Despite facing accusations of leaking his former team’s game plan to opponents, the Kansas City Chiefs have opted to keep Mecole Hardman onboard. Reports confirm that the Super Bowl Champions are set to sign the wide receiver to a one-year deal.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs have made the decision to retain Hardman, despite lingering rumors surrounding his alleged involvement in leaking game plans to the New York Jets last season.
Hardman’s journey has been tumultuous. After signing a one-year deal worth $4 million with the Jets in the previous offseason, the 26-year-old found himself back with the Chiefs midway through the season following a lackluster performance in New York. His stint with the Jets yielded minimal success, with just one reception for six yards before his return to Kansas City in October.
Even upon his return to the Chiefs, Hardman’s contributions were modest. Despite the team’s need for receiving talent, he managed only 14 receptions for a total of 118 yards, leaving many questioning his place in the roster.
However, amidst his underwhelming statistics, Hardman’s pivotal catch during the Super Bowl, which led to the Chiefs’ victory against the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, remains a significant highlight in his career.
The Chiefs’ decision to retain Hardman despite the controversies surrounding him underscores their faith in his potential and the belief that he can overcome his past challenges.
