Royal Butcher Disappointed as King Charles Removes Warrant
John Sinclair, co-owner of HM Sheridan, expressed disappointment after King Charles removed one of his royal warrants. The decision came after a review of 184 warrants previously granted during Charles’s time as Prince of Wales.
Sinclair, whose shop near Balmoral Castle has supplied the Royal Family for nearly four decades, feared the loss of his warrant may be due to his beef not being organic. Despite his attempt to retain the warrant, he was rejected along with at least eight other firms.
In a statement to The Mail on Sunday, Sinclair said, “We’re disappointed… Obviously, we didn’t meet the criteria, but I don’t know why.” He speculated that the lack of organic meat availability in his area might have contributed to the decision.
HM Sheridan also holds a royal warrant issued by Queen Elizabeth, which is undergoing a separate review along with over 600 others issued by the late Queen.
Several well-known brands lost their warrants during the review, including Vauxhall Motors, which had been associated with the Royal Family since 1961. Luxury carmakers Aston Martin and Land Rover retained their warrants, as did Taylors of Harrogate until recently.
The loss of warrants for some businesses could be attributed to Charles’s changing preferences and sustainability criteria introduced for royal warrants since the 1990s.
While some companies are thrilled to retain their warrants, others are left wondering if their lack of environmental awareness played a role in the decision.
Overall, the recent review of royal warrants reflects a shift towards sustainability and changing preferences within the Royal Family.
