Kansas City Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker ignited controversy with his recent commencement speech at Benedictine College, prompting reactions from teammates and commentators alike. Among those weighing in was star tight end Travis Kelce, whose comments stirred further debate.

On the New Heights podcast, hosted by brothers Jason and Travis Kelce, Travis shared his thoughts on Butker’s speech:

“When it comes down to his views and what he said at Saint Benedict’s commencement speech, those are his. I can’t say I agree with the majority of it or just about any of it, outside of just him loving his family and his kids.”

This response drew criticism from sports commentator Jason Whitlock, who said:

“Travis Kelce said a whole lot of nothing there because he has virtually no self-awareness… He thinks that he’s here and he’s famous and he’s rich and he’s super successful because both of his parents worked outside the home. He doesn’t recognize because Travis Kelce is a knucklehead.”

Despite the backlash, Butker remains steadfast. Speaking at a recent gala, he reiterated his commitment to his beliefs:

“The more I’ve talked about what I value most, my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I’ve become. It’s a decision I’ve consciously made, and one I do not regret at all.”

As the Chiefs gear up for the new season, all eyes will be on Butker when they face the Baltimore Ravens on September 8.
