Race relations in America are deeply intertwined with many aspects of life, including the NBA and NFL drafts. During the most recent NFL Draft in Detroit, social media buzzed as athletes arrived at the red carpet event accompanied by their girlfriends and families. A noticeable trend was that many of the incoming NFL rookies, who are predominantly African-American, were seen with white women—a recurring theme for years.

This pattern is also evident in the NBA Draft. This year, the conversation around the NFL and NBA drafts intensified, with African-American women openly questioning why so many players do not have partners of the same race.

One TikTok user addressed this topic, revealing that many of his Division-1 friends in college or those headed to professional leagues are dating or married to white women. He shared insights from his friends, stating that some athletes mentioned their white girlfriends admired Taylor Swift, while their girlfriends looked up to Megan Thee Stallion. He noted that the athletes observed more white women engaging in the Megan Thee Stallion challenge compared to Black women, reflecting cultural influences and preferences.
