Who do you think is currently the face of the WNBA?

The life of an NBA or a WNBA first-pick is usually never easy, they gets plunged into the spotlight instantly and they also get a hard time by their peers inside the court. But first-pic players need to go through this sort of ‘trial by fire’ moment if they want to live up to the greatness that people think they have. In Caitlin Clark’s case, this difficult first season falls exactly in this category. As soon as the rookies arrived this season, it was almost as if the established WNBA stars didn’t exist. Currently, there is a number of great players who can be considered the face of the league but all the attention is on Clark, Resse, Brinks, and other rookies. Someone who has a controversial take was already a first-round pick during her time but she is now retired.

Chiney Ogwumike knows who is the face of the WNBA

Former first-round pick and WNBA All-Star Chiney Ogwumike believes the Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson is currently the best player of the league. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are just starting their careers but Wilson is delivering steady and impressive numbers. Currently, she is leading the league in scoring with 28.6 PPG and in rebounding with 11.7 boards per game. Also, we are talking about a two-time MVP and back-to-back WNBA champion. It really doesn’t get better than A’ja Wilson as the true face of the league. Ogwumike was recently at ‘Awful Announcing’ to talk about this and she had a lot to say.

The most surprising part of this statement was the fact that Ogwumike refused to say Wilson is the face of the league. Even she acknowledges these rookies came to take over. She said: “[Wilson] is currently the back-to-back champion. She is currently right now playing like an MVP. Have you seen the history she’s made? Breaking a streak by Tina Charles, most 25-point games in a row. She is the most dominant player in the WNBA right now. But we’re experiencing a shift where, for better or worse, she’s not necessarily the face of the league. The face of the league is now Caitlin Clark.”
