Angel Reese, Sky Dominate Liberty In Near 50-Point Blowout - The Spun

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese made headlines on Monday when she spoke on the WNBA’s growth – and the idea that it is all because of Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.

“It all started from the National Championship game,” Reese said. “I’ve been dealing this with two years now… Yeah, negative things have probably been said about me but honestly, I’ll take that. Because look where women’s basketball is. People are talking about women’s basketball that you never would think would be. People are pulling up to games, we have celebrities coming to games, sold out arenas.”

Where these comments became controversial is when Reese seemingly took a shot at Clark, saying “I know I’ll go down in history. I’ll look back in 20 years and be like, ‘Yeah, the reason why we’re watching women’s basketball isn’t just because of one person. It’s because of me, too.'”

College football legend and former NFL star Robert Griffin III called Reese out for her comments in an Instagram comment, saying, “If she changed that ‘because of me’ to because of all of us, the whole WNBA would have been rocking with her.”

What Griffin may have missed is how Reese finished her message, telling reporters, “A lot of us have done so much for this game… There are so many great players in this league that have deserved this for a really long time. and luckily it’s coming now.”
