It’s The Dallas Cowboys Again: This Time It’s Contract Troubles
The Dallas Cowboys have once again found themselves in the spotlight this offseason, but not for the reasons they might have hoped. While they claim to be fully committed for the 2024 season, their actions—or lack thereof—tell a different story.
Amidst all the attention, a significant problem has slipped under the radar: their precarious contract situations with three key players: Micah Parsons, Dak Prescott, and receiver CeeDee Lamb. Rather than taking decisive action, the team has been procrastinating on addressing these issues.
Prescott’s situation highlights the severity of the problem. Early in his career, the Cowboys failed to offer him a fair contract, resulting in them being burdened with an expensive one now. Ultimately, they hastily signed him to a deal that will keep him under contract until 2025, limiting his flexibility in the market.
Lamb is facing similar delays. While the team could secure him with a long-term contract, delaying the decision risks inflating the cost—especially if other wide receivers sign lucrative deals in the meantime.
Rumors are swirling that the team is trying to negotiate Parsons’s contract expectations. Regardless, the Cowboys need to address these issues publicly and transparently.
The way the Cowboys handle contracts raises questions about their ability to manage elite players in today’s NFL. Their failure to properly reward emerging talent may be hindering their on-field success, despite their commercial prowess.
Instead of blaming the players or the media, fans should hold the Cowboys accountable for their handling of these situations. It’s time for the Cowboys to step up and demonstrate their commitment to building a competitive team for the 2024 season and beyond.
