Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, embarked on a meaningful visit to Nigeria, where they engaged in a series of impactful activities aimed at promoting causes close to their hearts.
Their journey commenced with a visit to the Lightway Academy, a school supported by their Archewell Foundation, dedicated to empowering young girls affected by conflicts in Nigeria. Amidst a warm reception from enthusiastic students and teachers, the couple participated in an inaugural mental health summit organized by GEANCO, a local non-profit partnering with their Foundation. Meghan and Harry interacted with students, discussing mental health and sharing anecdotes about their children, Archie and Lilibet, while encouraging openness and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
During their visit, Prince Harry also showcased his sporting spirit by engaging in a seated volleyball match with Nigerian Army veterans, many of whom had been wounded in battles against the country’s Islamist insurgency. The match, held at an Officer’s Mess complex in Abuja, exemplified the couple’s commitment to the Invictus Games, an initiative close to Prince Harry’s heart.
The Duke and Duchess met with Nigerian businessman Dr. Uzochukwu Stanley, owner of ‘The Delborough Lagos,’ further highlighting their interest in fostering partnerships and collaborations to support their philanthropic endeavors.
Their itinerary also included a visit to Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, where they were warmly received by servicemen and their families. In a private meeting with Nigeria’s chief of defence staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, the couple discussed matters of mutual interest, underscoring their commitment to supporting the armed forces and veterans.
Throughout their visit, Prince Harry and Meghan’s presence resonated deeply with the Nigerian people, particularly the students who were inspired by the couple’s dedication to humanitarian causes. As they departed, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and advocacy, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reaffirmed their belief in the resilience and potential of the Nigerian youth, echoing their commitment to a brighter future for all.
