Meghan Markle’s Title Could Change to Princess Henry if Stripped of Duchess Title

Despite leaving the U.K. in 2020, Meghan Markle continues to use her Duchess of Sussex title professionally. If King Charles were to strip her of this title, she would be known as Princess Henry, due to her marriage to Prince Harry, whose birth name is Henry.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward believes the titles will remain unchanged, as Harry is still a prince and Meghan would simply transition to Princess Henry. This is similar to how Kate Middleton, despite being Princess William, is commonly referred to as the Duchess of Cambridge.

There has been debate over Harry’s dukedom since he and Meghan moved to the U.S., with some royal watchers and politicians suggesting they lose their titles. Tom Quinn reported that King Charles and Prince William have discussed this but fear it could backfire, reinforcing the couple’s global influence.

Member of Parliament Bob Seely has advocated for stripping their titles through legislative action, suggesting they should be Mr. and Mrs. like others. Meanwhile, the couple continues to use their titles on their website, sussex.com, promoting their Archewell brand and charitable efforts.

The late Queen was supportive of Harry and Meghan, valuing their potential contributions to the Commonwealth, according to Seward. Despite the controversies, their titles remain a topic of significant discussion and debate.
