Patrick Mahomes faced a less-than-warm reception during Tom Brady’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Gillette Stadium on June 12. The 28-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was heavily booed by New England Patriots fans during his video tribute to Brady.

“I just wanna say congrats to Tom on being inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame,” Mahomes began, only to be drowned out by boos. Despite the jeers, he continued, “It’s well-deserved, man. I appreciate all the advice you’ve given me, especially after y’all beat us in the AFC Championship game. That put the stamp on all the hard work I’ve been putting in. Congrats again, man.”

The boos are likely a reflection of some fans’ perception that Mahomes is a contender for Brady’s title as the greatest of all time (GOAT) in the NFL, particularly after Mahomes secured his third Super Bowl ring.

However, Mahomes himself has acknowledged Brady’s unmatched legacy. “To me, it’s always going to be tough because Brady beat me in the Super Bowl,” Mahomes said in February 2023. He added that while he aims to achieve similar success, surpassing Brady’s seven Super Bowl titles seems a long way off.

Mahomes has faced Brady in several high-stakes games, including the 2019 AFC Championship and the 2021 Super Bowl, both of which ended in Brady’s favor.

Mahomes wasn’t the only one to receive boos during the ceremony. Eli Manning and Michael Strahan also faced a cold reception from the Patriots faithful during their tributes. Brady, who retired in 2023, is the 35th player to be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame. During the ceremony, he expressed his deep gratitude and reflected on his 20-year career with the team.

“Relationships are built on shared experience, and the most meaningful things in my life are my relationships,” Brady said. “I truly wish I had more time; I wish I had more time to give you all.”

Summing up his two decades with the Patriots, Brady acknowledged the impossibility of encapsulating it in a single speech, emphasizing the depth and significance of his tenure with the team.

Brady’s career with the Patriots was marked by six Super Bowl victories before he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, winning his seventh Super Bowl in 2021. His induction ceremony was a moment of reflection and celebration of an unparalleled football legacy.
