Nicholas Galitzine has fast become a Hollywood heartthrob thanks to his steamy new role as an A-list pop superstar alongside Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You.

But he was recently bestowed with a new title – ‘babygirl’ – which left him somewhat dumbfounded.

The Gen Z term, which has also been used to describe fellow actors Timothee Chalamet and Jacob Elordi, means: ‘A man with energy that’s vulnerable, in tune with his emotions and somewhat softer.’

Speaking to DailyMail.com at the Met Galathe Cinderella star, 29, said he is still having problems understanding the term.

Nicholas Galitzine is willing to accept the label of ‘babygirl’, though he’s still not completely sure what it means

‘So baby girl’ is Generation Z’s latest term of endearment for attractive men, including Jacob Elordi and Timothée Chalamet

‘[Hearing that] was quite an education because I didn’t really know what babygirl was,’ he said. ‘And I still can’t claim to really understand it.’

However, Nicholas is willing to accept the label, providing it only has positive connotations.

He added: ‘But as long as it’s a positive thing, I will live under the outline of babygirl.’

According to the Urban Dictionary, the term ‘He’s so babygirl‘ is defined as: ‘A person (typically female) will say this about another person (typically male) when he is looking extremely attractive but in a softer more lighthearted way.’

Stars such as Barry Keoghan and Jeremy Strong have also been deemed worthy of the title.

But despite its increasing popularity, Nicholas was completely dumbfounded by the term when it was brought to his attention in a recent interview with Hits Radio.

The actor was tasked with reading aloud tweets, one of which read: ‘No babygirl has ever babygirled the same way Nicholas Galitzine babygirls.’

Clearly confused, he asked why people kept referring to him as such before someone off camera was heard explaining how the ‘endearing’ term means someone can be a ‘grown man and be a babygirl.’

‘I’ll take that then,’ he said. ‘What an education this has been. Wow.’

Nicholas is currently celebrating the success of his new movie, The Idea of You, in which he plays Hayes Campbell, the 24-year-old love interest of Anne Hathaway’s character Solène, who is 40.

Based on Robinne Lee’s 2017 book, Solène takes her teen daughter Izzy, played by 22-year-old Ella Rubin, to Coachella at the suggestion of her ex-husband Daniel, played by Reid Scott, 46.

The divorced single mother crosses paths with successful boyband singer Hayes, of August Moon, before he performs and a romance ensues.

The romcom was rated 92 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes with early reviewers also praising the chemistry between Anne and Nicholas.

The film’s producer, Gabrielle Union, gushed about her joy at the movie’s success and what it has meant for her friend, Robinne.

‘It’s the most proud thing ever,’ she told DailyMail.com. ‘I started [this project] because one of my friends wrote this book – which is now number one on Amazon.

‘But it was just about being a good friend and believing in my good friend and her brilliance. And now the world sees her brilliance too.’

Nicholas has won hearts thanks to a string of well-received performances which has seen him star as a romantic lead; pictured with his Red White and Royal Blue co-star Taylor Zakhar Perez

The success of the film follows a string of well-received performances by Nicholas, who starred as the romantic lead in Cinderella, Purple Hearts and Red White and Royal Blue – leading some fans to claim he could soon become the new king of romance.

‘That’s very sweet,’ he said. ‘I’m just pleased that people are watching my movies.’

The London-born actor, who is said to be descended from Russian nobility, only agreed to perform in his first acting audition in a bid to impress his crush.

Nicholas landed his first role in 2014 comedy-drama The Beat Beneath My Feet before starring in romantic comedy High Strung and drama Handsome Devil.

Nicholas undoubtedly got his big break when he was cast as Prince Robert in Amazon’s live action adaptation of Cinderella opposite Camila Cabello who assumed the role of the iconic Disney Princess.

His role in the movie saw him portray an LGBTQ+ character leading many fans to brand him a ‘queer icon’

He then landed a leading role in Netflix’s Purple Hearts – which revolves around a troubled Marine and a strong-willed singer who fake a marriage for money despite their ideologically opposed viewpoints.

He then made waves in Red, White & Royal Blue, the LGBTQ+ rom-com that secured fans’ affections around the world despite being branded ‘bland’ by critics.

The actor is also leaving viewers hot under the collar once again in Starz drama, Mary & George.

The series tells the outrageous true story of a 17th century Countess, Mary Villiers, played by Julianne Moore, who molded her son (Nicholas) to seduce King James I.
