Despite the Indiana Fever’s ugly start to the 2024 WNBA season, Caitlin Clark is still seeing some positives. With that being said, though, the superstar rookie is asking fans to be more patient and believe in the process.

Speaking to reporters following the Fever’s 103-88 loss to the Seattle Storm that saw them drop to 1-8 on the campaign, Clark was asked about the sign that a young girl held up during the game at Gainbridge FieldHouse in Indiana.

The said sign noted that the fan came from Utah to watch Clark, whom she called her “hero.” Clark was appreciative of the gesture and talked about the impact they are having on women’s sport.

“At the end of the day, that’s why you play basketball. Sure, the wins are great, but the way the game has changed over the course of my career, whether it’s college and now coming here, you look around at all these young girls,” Clark shared.

“They’re coming to these games, and then even after the game we lose by however many points, but they’re still the happiest young girls in the world. They couldn’t be more thrilled that they’re here … they could care less how much we won by or how many points I scored or whatever it was. It’s just the experience and seeing us play, that’s just the coolest thing to me.”

Caitlin Clark also understands that the losses might be disappointing to many, but she promised that brighter days are ahead as the Fever continue to grow as a team. She also highlighted that the way they are playing is “really fun to watch,” so she hopes that the fans can keep supporting them.

“I hope our fans continue to come back, because this team is really fun to watch. I don’t think we’re really showing our full product yet, it’s just a work in progress. We’re young, we’re inexperienced, and I know we sound like a broken record saying that, but it’s true,” Clark shared.

Clark has been great so far to start in her career, averaging 17.6 points through the nine games she has played. Unfortunately, it hasn’t resulted in wins for the Fever.

Sure enough, though, Indiana is growing bit by bit, and they have been showing flashes of brilliance. The hope now is for them to produce results sooner rather than later.
