Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever suffered their WNBA worst ninth loss of the season on Sunday after a 104-68 beatdown against the New York Liberty. The Fever now sit at 2-9 on the season while the Liberty moved to 7-2.

A major storyline throughout the game was the injuries suffered by Clark and Aliyah Boston. In the fourth quarter, with the game already way out of hand, Clark suffered an ear injury that sent her to the locker room. Boston suffered a left ankle injury and she also had to go back to the locker room.

Many wondered why Fever coach Christie Sides was still playing the two stars with the game basically over. She justified her decision to play them using four words after the game during a press conference, saying they wanted to fight.

“They wanted to fight,” Sides said, “They wanted to get in that game. They tried to get the game closer than it was. They have pride too. They wanted to get in there and keep fighting, so that was the reason.”

Sides’ full answer was posted online.

The Fever will have four days off before their game against the Washington Mystics on Friday, June 7.
