Nika Muhl, the Croatian basketball talent, serves as the point guard for the UConn Huskies. Currently in her senior year at the University of Connecticut, Muhl embarked on her collegiate journey on April 8, 2019. During her freshman season, she showcased her skills by posting impressive statistics, averaging 5.0 points, 2.7 assists, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game across 22 appearances.
Her game style evolved in her sophomore year and she was named the Big East Defensive Player of the Year for the 2021-22 season. She earned this honor after averaging 2.2 steals per game that season. Her Junior year allowed her to shine at UConn, the Huskies were without their star player Paige Bueckers for most of the season, and in her absence, Nika became the team’s most important player.
In November 2022, Nika Muhl set a program record with 15 assists in a single game against NC State. She ranks second nationwide among female college basketball players for assists, trailing Caitlin Clark by just 2. Additionally, Muhl’s scoring abilities make her a formidable offensive threat when left unchecked.
Muhl earns the nickname “Secretary of Defense”
Fans have begun to recognize Nika Muhl’s exceptional basketball skills, affectionately dubbing her the “Secretary of Defense” after her position was humorously altered on a Wikipedia page. Despite having an extra year of COVID eligibility, Muhl has opted to forego it and pursue a professional career. She announced her departure from the UConn program prior to March Madness, indicating her intentions to enter the WNBA draft in the near future.
