Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese could’ve stayed with the LSU Tigers for one more year, but she opted to come out because she wanted to face a new challenge in her basketball career.
The Chicago Sky are struggling to string wins together, but Angel Reese’s confidence has not been deterred.
Reese thought she was ahead of the curve a bit when she arrived in the WNBA thanks to the work she put in at LSU. She even told CBS Sports HQ that Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey “kind of prepared me for this moment.”
She added she “thought training camp was gonna be harder.”
“I think my transition has been great. It hasn’t been a super, big, huge surprise because Kim Mulkey kind of prepared me for this moment. At LSU, our practices were like four hours. We were ready, we were working, I thought training camp was going to be harder. So, I think I was really prepared. I didn’t have, like, any WNBA surprises yet,” Reese said during an interview with CBS Sports.
A ton of fans did not appreciate her comments about the league and quickly blasted Reese for what she said:
The Chicago Sky might be under .500, but Reese has been quite the bright spot. Through eleven games played, she is averaging 12.4 points and 9.6 rebounds. Reese has also posted a double-double in each of her last four appearances.
She hasn’t been perfect and certainly has room for improvement. She is only shooting 37.8 percent from inside five feet of the basket, and with her size, she has only registered one block on the year.
Angel Reese Made It Clear She Is Part of WNBA’s Growth Just Like Caitlin Clark

Former LSU women’s basketball forward Angel Reese is part of a new crop of players who are responsible for so many more fans tuning in to watch games and buy tickets, but most of the attention was given to Caitlin Clark.
Angel Reese touted her own role in helping grow women’s basketball as she recalled playing the bad guy to Clark in the 2023 women’s national championship game.
“People are talking about women’s basketball, you never would think they’d be talking about women’s basketball,” Reese said.
“People are pulling up to games. We got celebrities coming to games and sold-out arenas just because of one single game. Just looking at that, I’ll take that role. I’ll take the bad guy role, and I’ll continue to take that on and be that for my teammates. I know I’ll go down in history. I’ll look back in 20 years and be like, the reason why we’re watching women’s basketball is not just because of one person. It’s because of me, too. I want y’all to realize that.”
The 2023 national championship game was a huge moment for women’s basketball that ended with Reese’s LSU squad taking down Clark’s Iowa squad in front of one of the largest audiences ever for a women’s basketball game.
The biggest moment that caused drama was when Reese taunted Clark in the waning moments of LSU’s win.
