The New York Liberty suffered their first loss of the WNBA season on Thursday, falling to the Chicago Sky 90-81 at home. This defeat follows a preseason game where the Sky dominated the Liberty by nearly 50 points.
Chicago, and Angel Reese in particular, seem to be New York’s kryptonite. At least one of New York’s former WNBA MVPs has already expressed frustration with Reese’s antics.
During the fourth quarter at Barclays Center, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese (5) reacted after being fouled by New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart (30).
About 100 seconds into the third quarter, Angel Reese cut off 2021 WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones while she was running down the court in transition. In response, Jones barreled into Reese, sending the “Chi Barbie” sprawling across the floor. Jones was whistled for a foul, turning the ball back over to Chicago. Reese was helped up by her teammates with a wide grin on her face.
One X user posted a video of the interaction, saying, “Angel Reese getting into Jonquel Jones’ head.”
The Liberty and the Sky face off again on June 4th. It remains to be seen whether Reese will get under Jones’ skin once more.
