One of the top franchises in the WNBA, the Las Vegas Aces, has not been their usual self this season. After winning over the New York Liberty in the 2023 Finals, they faced them on Saturday for a regular season battle. The two teams were expected to go neck-to-neck but that’s not how it went. The Eastern team established their dominance from the opening quarter crushing the Aces by 90-82 and leaving their ace A’Ja Wilson teary-eyed.
Talking to the media in the post-game presser, Wilson said, “I love my teammates so much.” Getting emotional the 27-year-old added, “[People] say I’m the best player in the world. That’s great. But I want to be the best person. I want to be the best teammate, because that’s how I get the best out of my team.”
A’ja Wilson scored 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists missing the double-double by a hair. Meanwhile, her teammate Kelsey Plum chipped in 22 points. However, it wasn’t enough against Jonquel Jones’ 34 points, Sabrina Ionescu’s 15 points, 12 assists and Breanna Stewart‘s 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The loss had taken a toll on the 2-time champion so she let her emotions out. While she was emotional off the court, her anger side came out during the game.
The Aces have previously been involved in altercations with other teams. But what grabbed the attention was their leader A’Ja Wilson’s furious reaction against the game officials.
Wilson was spotted frustrated with the referee during the final quarter. She was quarrelling about the mistake she felt the officials were making repeatedly regarding possession.
The Aces have recorded their sixth loss in twelve games. This was not anticipated from the way they ended the games last season. However, they still have opportunities to redeem themselves in the regular season. Wilson and her team will face the Storm for their next battle on Wednesday.
