Indiana Fever v Seattle Storm

Indiana Fever center Temi Fagbenle will miss the team’s home game against the Seattle Storm at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday. Fagbenle will be sidelined for “at least 2-3 weeks” due to a left foot injury which the 31-year-old sustained during the Fever’s last game against the LA Sparks.

Fagbenle’s injury is a significant setback for Indiana, who is struggling to secure wins this WNBA season. Fagbenle has featured in all eight games for the Fever this season and earned the trust of coach Christie Sides, being inserted into the starting lineup two games ago.

Fagbenle is averaging 9.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists on 56.9% shooting from the field this season. The veteran center was becoming a vital cog in Sides’ scheme on both offensive and defensive ends of the floor. In her absence, the Indiana Fever are likely to struggle on both ends, particularly on defense.

Temi Fagbenle’s injury makes things worse for Indiana Fever

The Indiana Fever (1-7) has the second-worst record in the WNBA this season despite having the No. 1 pick, Caitlin Clark, in their ranks. Just when the Fever needs to secure some much-needed wins to improve their record, Temi Fagbenle’s injury has dealt a massive blow to their aspirations.

Fagbenle struggled to find her footing in the first five games of the season. After a slow individual start, she found her rhythm in the last few games. Her best performance of the season came against the LA Sparks in Los Angeles, playing a pivotal role in the Fever’s only win of the season on May 25. Fagbenle scored 17 points, six rebounds and three assists in their victory over the Sparks.

In Fagbenle’s prolonged absence, the rest of the players will have to make more significant contributions to keep their playoff dreams alive.
