A’ja Wilson’s 29-point, 15-rebound double-double propelled the Las Vegas Aces to a 99-80 home win over Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Saturday.

Jackie Young added 22 points and Kelsey Plum provided 20 for the 3-1 Aces. Clark posted eight points on 2-of-8 shooting, seven assists, five rebounds and six turnovers for the 1-6 Fever. Kelsey Mitchell’s 16 points paced Indiana.

Indiana has been thrown into the fire early, with two games against the undefeated Connecticut Sun and another pair against last year’s finalists in the New York Liberty.

But Saturday was as about as tough of a matchup it gets for the Fever on the road against the defending WNBA champions.

Unsurprisingly, the Fever struggled. Indiana had no answer for the Wilson-Young-Plum trio and couldn’t get going on offense after an impressive 28-point first quarter. It took Indiana two quarters to score its next 28 points.

Clark has done a great job stuffing the statsheet during her rookie season, but she’s struggled shooting the ball (37 percent) and turnovers continue to be a problem (5.3 per game).

Of course, she’s just seven games into her rookie season, so improvement will surely come for the two-time consensus collegiate player of the year. In the meantime, fans noted her trials in the early going:

“Caitlin Clark 8pts and we’re in the 4th quarter. She is in hell. 😭”

The Fever now return home on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they host the Los Angeles Sparks. Indiana beat L.A. 78-73 last Friday for its lone win this season.
