Minnesota Timberwolves standout Anthony Edwards achieved a new career milestone under extraordinary circumstances. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard marked his first 50-point game in front of none other than 50 Cent, after delivering an impressive 51-point performance in Tuesday’s 130-121 victory over the Washington Wizards. In the closing moments of the fourth quarter, the 22-year-old Edwards utilized a screen set by Kyle Anderson, maneuvered past two Wizards defenders, and executed a remarkable layup to reach the 51-point mark. 50 Cent, sporting a Timberwolves cap, rose from his seat with a wide smile, commemorating the NBA star’s remarkable achievement. The memorable moment did not go unnoticed by NBA fans.
“Guess 50 Cent found a new favorite cent. Anthony Edwards is on fire!” one wrote.
“Dropping ur first 50 w/ 50 Cent in attendance is legendary,” another said.
“Dropping 50 in front of 50 is amazing,” a third added.
“50 Cent standing up courtside after Anthony Edwards hit 50…” one wrote.
“I deada** be feeling like I’m in a fever dream watching this Minnesota Timberwolves team. Like I can hardly believe these words I’m typing.”
Edwards let the moment sink in during a stoppage of play a few seconds later.
The former No. 1 overall NBA pick extended his arms, displaying all five fingers of his left hand while clenching his right fist in celebration of his 50-point achievement.
Ant-Man, who also contributed six rebounds and seven assists against the Wizards, is enjoying a stellar season.
The former Georgia standout is currently averaging 26.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.3 steals in the 2023-24 NBA season.
Remarkably, he’s shooting 36.2% from beyond the arc on 6.8 attempts per game.
Race to the top.
The Timberwolves are currently in contention for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
Following their victory over the Wizards, they now share the top spot in the West with the Denver Nuggets, both boasting a record of 52-24.
Tomorrow’s matchup between the two teams carries significant weight, as Minnesota holds a 2-1 lead in the season series.
Furthermore, the Timberwolves have the division record tiebreaker over the defending NBA champions, providing an advantage in case of a tie.
It’s worth noting that Minnesota hasn’t held the No. 1 seed since the 2003-04 season, when they advanced to the Western Conference Finals before falling to the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.
