“Jordi Fernandez has emerged as the Brooklyn Nets’ choice to become the franchise’s next coach, separating himself in a wide, month-long search that now has the Nets prepared to hire the Sacramento Kings’ top assistant.” Adrian wrote this in his post.
Fernandez joined the Kings shortly before the 2018 season and played a crucial role in guiding them to their first postseason appearance in over two decades. In that remarkable season, Mike Brown, the Kings’ head coach, was honored as the Coach of the Year by the league. With Fernandez’s contributions, the Kings achieved a commendable 46-36 record and progressed to the NBA play-in round.
Jordi Fernandez has an impressive coaching journey yet
The Nets underwent significant changes in their coaching staff in recent years. During the 2018-19 season, Sean Marks made the decision to dismiss Kenny Atkinson, who was his initial head coach appointment in Brooklyn. This decision came as the team transitioned from a rebuilding phase to contending with star players like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
After more than two seasons, the Nets opted for a change and Steve Nash stepped in as the new head coach. Meanwhile, Fernandez, hailing from Barcelona and currently serving as the Canadian national team coach, has had a remarkable coaching journey.
Fernandez has made notable contributions to both the Spanish and Nigerian national teams and has been actively involved in coaching pursuits. He has interviewed for coaching positions with esteemed NBA teams such as the Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns, and Milwaukee Bucks. Additionally, in the previous year, his Canadian team achieved success by winning the bronze medal in the FIBA World Cup.
