Caitlin Clark of Iowa secured her second consecutive John R. Wooden Award as the nation’s premier women’s college basketball player, announced on Tuesday. Among the other contenders were Cameron Brink from Stanford, Paige Bueckers representing UConn, and freshmen Hannah Hidalgo from Notre Dame and JuJu Watkins from Southern California.
All five nominees have been invited to Los Angeles for the award ceremony scheduled for Friday.
Clark’s remarkable season saw her lead the Hawkeyes to their second consecutive NCAA title game appearance, ultimately falling short against undefeated South Carolina. She topped the charts in scoring, averaging 31.6 points per game, and in assists with an impressive 8.9 per game, making her the first player to achieve the top spot in both categories in consecutive seasons. Furthermore, Clark solidified her legacy by becoming the all-time leading scorer in Division I basketball, regardless of gender, during her final season at Iowa.
