Flau’jae Johnson couldn’t contain her pride when she witnessed her LSU teammate, Angel Reese, being drafted into the WNBA. Johnson shared her emotions upon seeing Reese on that stage, expressing her immense pride in her fellow LSU teammate’s accomplishment. She described it as a victory for everyone and revealed that the two had a heartfelt conversation following the draft.
Reese’s selection by the Chicago Sky in the WNBA Draft took place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York on Monday.
With an outstanding college career, Reese has secured her place in LSU and women’s basketball history. According to Johnson, Reese’s draft pick has ignited her own determination to pursue that dream for herself.
Here’s what Flau’jae Johnson had to say about her LSU teammate, Angel Reese, being chosen in the WNBA Draft.
“It has definitely fired me like, she was literally my teammate in college and now she is pursuing her dream in the draft which is also a dream of mine.
When her name got called, I felt like it was a win for everybody. I was so proud of her, I told her congratulations,” Johnson told Kevin Hart on NBA Unplugged.
The Tigers guard called Reese ‘legendary’ for what she did as an LSU women’s basketball player. She said that she felt like being on the stage when the ‘Bayou Barbie’s name was called.
“I felt like I was up there at the draft. I was so happy for her,” she added.
While Reese became the seventh overall pick in this year’s draft, Johnson has some time left before she can follow her friend to live the dream. For now, she will be leading the Lady Tigers next season and try to win another national title.
