Lil Wayne deserves more recognition, not just for his status as one of the most respected rappers in the music industry, but also for his remarkable ability to be succinct.
During his performance at the Wells Fargo Arena on April 11, the five-time Grammy winner captivated the packed house with his efficient approach. Cosplaying as a professional speed-runner, Lil Wayne delivered brief snippets of hit after hit, minimizing chitchat with the crowd while expressing sincere praises and gratitude. Oh, and he also managed to slip in a compliment to Caitlin Clark.
Weezy delivered a mix of his iconic hits at the Wells Fargo Arena, from mixtape favorite “Watch My Shoes” to chart-toppers like “A Milli,” “Lollipop,” “Mrs. Officer,” “How to Love,” “6 Foot 7 Foot,” and many more. By performing abbreviated versions of each track, Lil Wayne ensured there was never a dull moment, with the crowd enthusiastically cheering and effortlessly belting out lyrics.
The energy in the arena was electric, and Lil Wayne took a moment to acknowledge it, praising the crowd as “awesome.” While such compliments may be common, Lil Wayne emphasized that the enthusiasm from the audience on Thursday night was truly genuine and exceptional.
Lil Wayne shows love for Caitlin Clark
It’s no shocker that Caitlin Clark, the face of college basketball, received a shoutout at another Des Moines concert, hot on the heels of Iowa women’s basketball’s remarkable return to the NCAA Tournament championship game. Country star Tim McGraw even sported a Clark jersey during his show at the Wells Fargo Arena in March.
This acknowledgment is hardly surprising, given Lil Wayne’s known affinity for women’s basketball. Over the past year, he’s shown support for LSU basketball player Angel Reese and even offered her advice during an interview with Taylor Rooks and Bleacher Report. Additionally, Lil Wayne took to social media to congratulate Clark when she reached the milestone of 3,000 points in her Iowa career.
During his concert, Lil Wayne playfully teased the crowd, asking if they knew anything about Caitlin Clark.
“Y’all know anything about Caitlin Clark?” Lil Wayne teased the crowd.
He went on to describe the basketball star as “dope” before dedicating his next song, “I’m Single,” to the ladies in attendance.
