Denver Nuggets standout Nikola Jokic is undoubtedly one of the NBA’s top players at the moment, with many tipping him as the frontrunner for this season’s MVP award. In a recent NBA event, Jokic had the opportunity to reflect on some of his signature plays.
Among the topics discussed was the renowned Sombor Shuffle, a move that Jokic himself pioneered. Interestingly, it was Nuggets play-by-play announcer Chris Marlowe who christened the move as the Sombor Shuffle, paying homage to Jokic’s hometown of Sombor, Serbia.

“This is a shot against AD (Anthony Davis); I kind of made a couple of these during the playoffs. I told the media that I was going to take it as my shot. This is my shot, my signature shot,” said the Joker, reacting to his plays from the previous playoffs.
The Sombor Shuffle draws comparisons to NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki’s trademark fadeaway shot, but it has its own unique flair. Jokic typically begins by dribbling, then plants his right leg and launches a high-arching jumper toward the basket in what’s become known as the “Sombor Shuffle.” Despite drifting backward during the shot, he often maintains a straight posture upon release.
Nikola Jokic leads the Nuggets to a Ninth consecutive win over the Lakers
The Joker rallied his team in the Western Conference playoff opener against the Los Angeles Lakers. Although the Nuggets initially lagged behind, with the Lakers dominating the first half, once the Nuggets found their rhythm, they became unstoppable.
