Nikola Jokic made a memorable entrance for a first-round playoff game on Saturday night, arriving in character as “Gru,” the lovable protagonist from the “Despicable Me” movies.
Sporting a strikingly similar outfit to the animated character, complete with Gru’s iconic wrap-around striped scarf, Jokic’s playful costume garnered significant attention on social media. The Denver Nuggets even joined in on the fun, posting a playful quip: “Is he going to play basketball or attempt to steal the moon?” Jokic’s creative and lighthearted gesture added an extra touch of entertainment to the playoff atmosphere.

Nikola Jokic’s choice of outfit seemed to be a playful nod to his appearance in a promotional video for “Despicable Me 4.” In the teaser, Jokic humorously portrays a character seeking therapy because the Minions mistakenly believe he’s their boss.
In the trailer, Jokic is depicted sitting on a therapist’s couch, dressed in a sharp suit, while discussing his resemblance to “Gru.” He humorously recounts how he thought he looked quite dashing that day, donning a suit that conveyed a sense of professionalism and seriousness.
Jokic’s playful involvement in the promotion adds an extra layer of fun to his “Gru” costume and showcases his willingness to embrace lighthearted moments off the basketball court.

“I thought I looked really good that day. I put on this beautiful suit that said, ‘I mean business,'” Jokic tells the therapist.
“Then what happened?” she wonders.
“They say I look like ‘Gru,'” Jokic responds.
“Why does that bother you?” she asks.
“It doesn’t,” Jokic insists.
“Then why bring it up? she inquires.
“Because they won’t leave me alone,” Jokic says.
Jokic then walks over to a window and pulls up a shade to reveal a handful of Minions cheering for “Gru” from outside.
“Guys, I’m not your boss,” Jokic says.
Jokic is the certainly boss on the court for the Nuggets, averaging 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds and nine assists this season. He’s the favorite to win a third MVP award, according to BetMGM Sportsbook. He was the MVP of the finals last season when the Nuggets captured their first NBA title in franchise history.
