All eyes are fixed on the Indiana Fever ahead of the 2024 WNBA season, following their acquisition of the highly coveted consensus number one overall pick, Caitlin Clark, in the 2024 WNBA draft. Amidst heightened expectations, head coach Christie Sides is diligently cultivating the right mindset within her team for the upcoming campaign.
Despite selecting Aliyah Boston as the first overall pick in the 2023 WNBA draft, the Indiana Fever fell short of reaching the playoffs, concluding the season with the third-worst record in the league at 13-27, narrowly above the Seattle Storm and Phoenix Mercury.
With the addition of Caitlin Clark to their roster, the team is optimistic about their prospects, pinning hopes on these two promising young players to spearhead the Fever’s future resurgence.
As they eagerly anticipate the start of the WNBA season, Christie Sides is already instilling a culture of hard work and determination within the team, emphasizing the importance of dedication and effort in achieving success.
“Everything is earned. Nothing is given to you,” said Christie Sides. “Make sure we’re in a ‘no deposit, no return’ mindset. You’ve got to put it in.”

The Indiana Fever will commence their regular season on May 14th with an away game against the Connecticut Sun at the Michigan Sun Arena. Christie Sides Amazed by Caitlin Clark’s Basketball Distribution Skills
With Caitlin Clark’s popularity and her Steph Curry-like shooting skills, the Indiana Fever are anticipated to be one of the most-watched WNBA teams in the upcoming 2024 season. Coach Christie Sides expressed her admiration for the Iowa standout, highlighting her ability to find open teammates during practice sessions.
“Her passing ability, I mean, you saw some of the passes. I think we’re not just used to having, you know, someone who can make some of those passes,” said Sides at the 1:50 mark. “It’s her passing. I’m just enamored at times to turn around because I’m like, about to like, get really excited.”
At the college level, Caitlin Clark has been nearly averaging a double-double each game with 8.9 assists per game. Now, with the Indiana Fever, she is poised to establish a backcourt partnership with Kelsey Mitchell, who led the team in scoring during the 2023 season.
Clark’s arrival brings a seasoned point guard to the team, complementing Erica Wheeler, the primary assists contributor for the Fever, who will now come off the bench. Clark’s exceptional passing abilities are expected to create more scoring opportunities for players like Aliyah Boston and NaLyssa Smith.
