Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday has reportedly inked a lucrative four-year, $135 million contract extension, signaling his commitment to the team after an impressive debut season. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news on Wednesday, citing Holiday’s agent, Jason Glushon.

Holiday, a seasoned player with a stellar career, had a player option worth $37.4 million for the upcoming season, which has been renegotiated to $35 million as part of the extension. Despite having the opportunity to explore free agency, the two-time All-Star opted to stay with the Celtics, passing on a deal that would have kept him in the NBA until the end of the 2027–2028 season.
The decision to retain Holiday strengthens the Celtics’ roster and enhances their chances of competing for an NBA championship. Additionally, the extension is expected to provide salary cap relief for the team in the upcoming season.
Holiday’s journey to Boston began on October 1 when he was acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon and center Robert Williams III. The trade came just days after the Milwaukee Bucks landed Damian Lillard in a blockbuster deal, which ultimately led to Holiday’s move to Portland.
Jrue Holiday Has Incredible Stats for the Boston Celtics Till Now
In his inaugural season with the Celtics, Jrue Holiday has seen a noticeable decrease in his statistical output. Despite being the primary point guard for a team considered one of the NBA title favorites, his averages stand at 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, according to NBA statistics. While his scoring role has diminished, Holiday remains a tenacious defender who seamlessly fits into the Celtics’ system and maintains a consistent presence beyond the three-point line.
Holiday’s invaluable experience and exceptional ball-handling skills have proven to be assets for the Celtics, who have long sought a suitable complement for Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Despite being 33 years old, Holiday’s playing style ages gracefully, and he continues to be recognized as one of the league’s premier perimeter defenders.
His recent contract extension will keep him with the team until his 37th season, and although there may be concerns about his age, Holiday’s performance on the court suggests otherwise. Currently, he ranks eighth in the NBA in three-point efficiency, averaging 4.7 attempts per game with a career-best shooting percentage of 43.1%.
