Caitlin Clark had a special moment with Jake from State Farm, who hugged and congratulated her after she became the number one draft pick in the WNBA.
On April 15th, the former Iowa Hawkeyes basketball player arrived at the Brooklyn Academy of Music where she was announced as the top pick for the Indiana Fever. In a TikTok video recently shared, Clark is seen posing with her jersey before walking up to Kevin Miles, the actor known for portraying Jake from State Farm.
“She really saw him before her parents,” text across the screen emphasised.
The clip went on to receive more than four million views with many people leaving comments about how the actor appears to always be everywhere and dressed up in his signature red and khaki pants.
“Jake from State Farm doesn’t get to be anyone else does he,” one comment read. Another commenter agreed, writing, “Jake from State Farm is literally such a likeable guy he turned into an A list celebrity lol everybody shows him love.”
Throughout the NCAA tournament, insurance company commercials featuring Clark urged her to “cover greatness” amid her record-breaking season. Despite no longer being able to partner with State Farm under NIL regulations, the company celebrated her achievements by erecting a billboard in Times Square, New York City, ahead of the draft and sending Jake to personally congratulate her.
“Jake from State Farm is Caitlin’s biggest hype man fr,” one TikTok comment joked.
At the draft, Clark made a fashion statement by wearing a complete Prada ensemble, becoming the first WNBA or NBA player to partner with the brand. She sported a Prada double white satin shirt and skirt, accessorized with black brushed leather slingback pumps, a black Galleria handbag, and acetate sunglasses. Clark expressed her love for the brand to GQ Sports while walking the red carpet, stating, “I love Prada. I think Prada is very me.” Her stylist, Adri Zgirdea Toth, coordinated the look, highlighting the significance of dressing an athlete for the draft in Prada attire.
During her final college basketball season at Iowa, Clark gained attention for increasing viewership of women’s basketball games. The 2023 national championship game between the Hawkeyes and LSU’s Tigers drew an average of nearly 10 million viewers, marking a 103 percent increase from the previous year’s women’s championship. Additionally, an Iowa game that went into overtime before Ohio State’s loss had an average of 1.93 million viewers across NBC and Peacock. Viewership peaked during overtime, with 3.9 million viewers across those networks.
