Nicki Minaj is a fearless rapper with a riotous sense of humor.
And the 41-year-old rhymestress showed off both qualities on her fourth studio album, Queen, which surprisingly hit shelves, streaming services, and air waves Friday.
The track Barbie Dreams got people particularly riled up for featuring the Pinkprint creator take shots at Drake, Meek Mill, DJ Khaled, and many more in her verses.
In the song, Nicki ripps into Drake by rapping, ‘Drake worth a hundred milli, always buying me s***/ But I don’t know if the pussy wet or if he’s crying and s***.’
She goes after her ex, Meek Mill, with the words, ‘Meek still be in my DMs, I be having to duck him/ ”I used to pray for times like this,” face ass when I f*** him.’
Hip hop’s hottest producer DJ Khaled also ended up in the rapper’s line of fire, as she spits: ‘Had to cancel DJ Khaled, boy, we ain’t speaking/ Ain’t no fat n**** telling me what he ain’t eating.’
The internet was immediately up in arms over the lyrics, and tried to figure out exactly why Nicki was tearing into the biggest names in music.
According the to the Pinkprint rapper, however, it was all in good fun: ‘You guys know ‘Barbie Dreams’ is not a diss, right?,’ she explained on her new Beats 1 radio show Thursday night.
‘It’s just some funny s***. I love them. I said things about people who I know can take a joke and won’t be emotional about it.
‘Reading the reactions to ‘Barbie Dreams’ is f—ing hilarious,’ she continued.
‘Everyone is saying how disrespectful ‘Barbie Dreams’ is, and that’s why I f***ing love it.’
Nicki’s album dropped on Friday in somewhat surprising fashion.
The album had been postponed mutltiple times, first it was expected to be released on June 15, before getting pushed back to August 10.
Then it was delayed again till August 17 due to complications regarding clearance of rights to a Tracy Chapman sample.
But it seems everything has been resolved and it ended up coming a week early.
This is the rapper’s first album since 2014’s The Pinkprint.
