In an interview on Good Morning America with Michael Strahan, Prince Harry, 38, emphatically stated that he and Meghan Markle would not move back to the UK or resume full-time royal duties. He emphasized the challenges posed by the British press, claiming their presence would make their lives “unsurvivable” in the UK. “Even if there was an agreement between me and my family, there’s that third party [the British press] that’s going to do everything they can to make sure that that isn’t possible,” he said.

Shortly after Harry’s interview, Meghan Markle, 41, declared she has no intention of ever returning to the UK. This revelation has intensified speculation and public scrutiny, highlighting the ongoing rift between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family.

The couple relocated to California in early 2020, residing in a $14.65 million mansion in Montecito, where they are raising their two children, Archie and Lilibet. Despite distancing themselves from royal duties, Harry hinted they would retain their titles as Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Prince Harry addressed criticisms about their decision to move to California and their subsequent public revelations about private royal matters. In a candid exchange with Anderson Cooper, Harry revealed frustrations over alleged briefings and leaks against him and Meghan, stating, “Every single time I’ve tried to do it privately there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife.”

The couple announced their decision to step back from royal duties on January 8, 2020, aiming to become financially independent while continuing to support the Queen. Their statement noted a desire to balance time between the UK and North America, though this plan has clearly shifted.

Since their departure, Harry and Meghan have faced increasing calls to relinquish their titles. This demand has grown louder following several publicized criticisms of the royal family, including their explosive Oprah interview, a Netflix documentary, and Harry’s memoir, “Spare.” A December poll showed that 98% of participants want the couple stripped of their Duke and Duchess titles.

In their Netflix series, the couple accused the royal family of “institutional gaslighting” and lying to protect Prince William. Harry also mentioned he and Meghan had once offered to give up their titles during discussions about their move to America, a position that now seems to have changed.
