Caitlin Clark came into the WNBA as a worldwide star. She turned into a basketball star during her time with the Iowa Hawkeyes in college, but the 22-year-old has received massive scrutiny as of late. Once she entered the WNBA, it meant war for Clark.

The rookie for the Indiana Fever has been involved in multiple controversial interactions with players like DiJonai Carrington, Chennedy Carter, and Breanna Stewart. She may be one of the most popular women’s basketball players in the game, but opposing stars seem to see her as a target.

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal spoke on players attacking Clark, sharing his honest thoughts on the WNBA’s reaction to her stardom.

“The WNBA girls are letting her know… One person may have all the props, but it’s never one person. Don’t say we’re getting new sponsorships because of Caitlin. What about Angel, what about Cardoso? What about my favorite, Kelsey Plum?,” said O’Neal via the Big Podcast with Shaq on YouTube.

O’Neal made his stance on Clark very clear. He believes she’s doing great things for the WNBA, but the fact that other players aren’t getting the credit they deserve leads to drama like that with Carrington and Carter.

“So I think where people get upset is, as a player, you don’t want to be forgotten,” added O’Neal.

“It’s professional jealousy. I think people should focus more on not just her, cause she is a great player, but don’t forget about the beautiful Cardoso and my girl, Angel.”
