Angel Reese hit Caitlin Clark across the head on a hard foul that was eventually upgraded to a flagrant foul during the Indiana Fever’s win over the Chicago Sky on Sunday. Given the history between Reese and Clark, the foul was the biggest talking point from the game, yet WNBA legend Swin Cash isn’t pleased with the fact that the foul is being highlighted and shared.
Cash, a three-time WNBA champion, took to X, formerly Twitter, and claimed the media was doing “nasty work” by “only” showing Reese’s foul on Clark.
“To have the only highlight of Angel be that foul is nasty work by these outlets,” Cash wrote. “U know what you’re doing while also questioning her intent is nonsense! They got it right, it was a flagrant 1 it was called by the refs & the players played on. Smh Keep Pushin& Competing Angel.”
Cash’s complaint is ridiculous for several different reasons.
For starters, plays like Reese’s hard foul on Clark are always singled out and shared across social media. Cash thinking that it’s unfair for the media to do so when the two most popular rookies in the WNBA are involved is as naive as it gets.
On top of that, Cash claiming that the foul is “the only highlight” being shared is simply untrue.
Social media was flooded with different plays and highlights from the game, including Reese’s double-double effort in the contest. Cash is trying to make it sound as if shows like SportsCenter simply showed Reese’s flagrant foul and moved on from the game, which wasn’t the case at all.
Cash is simply seeing what only she wants to see, while adding fuel to the fire of the idea that Clark is being targeted on the floor. She can’t stand the fact that Reese is being called out for smacking Clark across the head and would rather the video had never been shared at all despite it being the most-talked about moment of the entire game.
The only facts of the situation are that Clark has been fouled, hard, both times the Fever have taken the floor against the Sky. Earlier this season, it was Chennedy Carter throwing Clark to the floor on a non-basketball play and two weeks later we see Reese’s forearm meeting Clark’s head on a layup attempt.
