The WNBA has levied fines against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky for not meeting the league’s media requirements after their loss to the Indiana Fever on Saturday.

The game, which drew considerable attention as a rematch between former collegiate adversaries Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark, lived up to its billing. Tensions ran high, and notable interactions included a hard foul by the Sky’s Chennedy Carter on Clark, which sparked significant discussion. Reese was particularly animated, celebrating vocally when her teammate knocked down the top draft pick.

However, Reese was conspicuously absent from the post-game press conference following the Sky’s 71-70 defeat. This noncompliance resulted in a $1,000 fine for the former LSU star. The Chicago Sky organization was also fined $5,000 for not ensuring that all players met their media obligations.

Chennedy Carter did speak to the media, but she was reticent regarding the foul on Clark. Initially deemed a common foul by game officials, it was later upgraded to a Flagrant 1 by the league. “I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions,” Carter stated when questioned about the incident.

Caitlin Clark, on the other hand, addressed the foul during an in-game interview, dismissing it as an aggressive but manageable part of the game. “Yeah, that’s just not a basketball play,” Clark commented. “But you know, I’ve gotta play through it. That’s what basketball is about at this level. I thought we’ve been really physical, we’ve missed some bunnies around the rim, so hopefully those fall in the fourth.”

The Sky’s loss left them with a 3-4 record, while the Fever celebrated their second win of the season. The reluctance of Reese and her teammates to engage with the media post-game suggested a different scenario might have unfolded had they secured a victory.
