Angel Reese applauds after teammate flattens Caitlin Clark with brutal cheap shot flagrant
Angel Reese got out of her seat after her Chicago Sky teammate Chennedy Carter flattened Caitlin Clark for no apparent reason in a close WNBA game against the Indiana Fever on Saturday
Angel Reese was seen getting out of her seat to applaud her Chicago Sky teammate Chennedy Carter after Carter flattened Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark late in the third quarter in what can only be described as a cheap shot. Indiana went on to win 71-70 in the Saturday afternoon contest.
The incident occurred as Clark looked to receive the ball from an inbounds pass after Chicago scored in a close game with the Fever. Carter body-checked her to the ground when she wasn’t looking. Clark looked confused by what happened, before Reese quickly rose to her feet to applaud Carter.
Clark took some tough fouls from the Sky throughout the afternoon, as Chicago played particularly aggressively against the outstanding rookie.

The game marked the first time that Reese and Clark met in the WNBA after both were top-10 draft picks in the 2024 class. Indiana selected Clark at No. 1, while Chicago took Reese at No. 7. The two collegiate rivals notably battled in the 2023 and 2024 NCAA Tournaments in college. Reese famously celebrated in Clark’s face in a 2023 triumph, pointing to her finger after her LSU squad defeated Iowa.
Clark then exacted her revenge the following season, eliminating Reese and LSU from March Madness, before going on to the 2024 national championship game where she lost to South Carolina.
Despite the two going back and forth in college, they seemed to be in a good place with one another heading into the WNBA, with Reese praising Clark, praise that had also seemingly been reciprocated by the former Iowa star.
After their last game against each other in college, Reese said of an on-court interaction: “She just told me, ‘Continue to be a great player. And I told her, ‘Continue to be a great player, as well, and keep elevating the game and go win it.'”
She added: “Me and Caitlin Clark don’t hate each other. I want everybody to understand that. It’s just a super-competitive game., and I just wish people would realize that once I get between those lines, there’s no friends.
“I have plenty of friends on the court that I talk to outside of the game, but when I get between those lines, we’re not friends, we’re not buddies. I’m going to talk trash to you. I’m going to do whatever it takes to get in your head the whole entire game, but after the game, we can kick it. I don’t think people really realize that.”
However, her latest act on the court is sure to see some Fever fans question Reese’s thoughts on Clark. “That’s not a basketball play,” Clark told ESPN of Carter’s foul.
