NFL Fans Rally Around Patrick Mahomes Following Heartbreaking News

NFL fans are rallying around Patrick Mahomes and his family after hearing some heartbreaking news. Debbie Bates Martin, the grandmother of the Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback, passed away last Wednesday at the age of 72 after battling unspecified health issues. Debbie was the mother of Patrick’s mom, Randi Mahomes.

The sad news was announced by Teresa Jane, a close friend of Randi’s, in a Facebook post. On Monday evening, Randi expressed her emotions on Twitter, sharing her grief with followers.

Football fans have been offering their condolences to the Mahomes family on Twitter:

Debbie Martin had been featured in several news stories during Mahomes’ first five years as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback. Before Kansas City’s 2019 Divisional Round game against the Indianapolis Colts, Martin was interviewed by KETK NBC in East Texas.

“I can’t believe it’s all happening. He’s only 23 years old, and Kansas City’s had him a year, and he’s just great up there…He hasn’t changed and he’ll always be Patrick,” Martin told the media outlet.

That year, Mahomes, who won the regular season MVP award, led the Chiefs to a 31-13 victory over the Colts in the Divisional Round. This win sent Kansas City to the first of their five consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances. While the Chiefs lost the 2018 AFC title game to the New England Patriots, they have since won three of the last four conference championships and two Super Bowls.

Debbie Martin is survived by her husband Randy, their children, four sisters, 13 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Her funeral was held Monday at the Rader Funeral Home in Henderson, Texas.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Martin family and their friends during this difficult time.
