Meghan Markle’s Awkward Moment at Trooping the Colour
During her first Trooping the Colour in 2018, Meghan Markle attempted a lighthearted joke that fell flat. According to Prince Harry’s memoir, *Spare*, Meghan, shortly after joining the Royal Family, tried to break the ice with Princess Kate by commenting on the event. When Kate asked Meghan what she thought of her first Trooping the Colour, Meghan replied simply, “Colourful.” This response led to an uncomfortable silence.
This event took place just weeks after Harry and Meghan’s star-studded wedding. The couple, alongside other royals, celebrated the late Queen’s official birthday with a grand parade. While Meghan was seen chatting with Kate, William, and Camilla on the Buckingham Palace balcony, Harry described the atmosphere behind the scenes as tense.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at Horse Guards Parade in a carriage with the late Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Kent, witnessing the elaborate ceremony for the first time. Meghan, in a Carolina Herrera blush off-the-shoulder dress, and Kate, in a baby blue Alexander McQueen outfit, were dressed impeccably for the occasion.
Since stepping down as senior royals in 2020, Harry and Meghan no longer attend such events. This year, Princess Kate, despite her ongoing health battles, is set to attend Trooping the Colour to celebrate King Charles’s official birthday, highlighting her resilience and commitment to royal duties.
