As an administrator of several Taylor Swift fan groups, my experience has been as varied as it has been intense. Having been unexpectedly removed from some groups myself, I approach my current role with a seriousness and dedication that should not be underestimated. Despite my best efforts to mediate conflicts via the “report to admin” option, I faced the tough decision of banning a member from our group—which I’ve managed for less than two weeks—much sooner than anticipated.

Our group boasts over 1,300 members, and along with the 44,000 followers on my page and 4,000 friends, I receive a plethora of direct messages. Many members, including the one in question, regularly reached out with queries or simply to vent. Initially, the messages were innocuous, centered around Taylor-related questions. However, the conversation soon shifted towards frustration over ticket prices for Taylor’s Eras Tour, which escalated to a demand that they ought to be free. While Taylor does discreetly give away tickets, the entitled stance that this should be expected became a point of contention.

The situation deteriorated when this individual began criticizing my management of the group, branding it a “cult” and attacking my approach. Despite repeated requests to halt these messages, they persisted, leading me to remove them from the group and block them on all platforms. The harassment didn’t stop there; it spilled over to other social media and even reached other group members.

In response to these events, I reiterated the group’s stance: We are pro-Taylor, and while discussions and frustrations about accessibility are valid, entitlement over how a public figure should act is not. Our group is a safe space, free from negativity and unrealistic demands.

This incident underscores a broader principle that resonates deeply with me and, I believe, with many others in this community. Taylor Swift’s generosity, often revealed quietly and after the fact, speaks volumes about her character. Her contributions during times of need, such as her donations to hurricane relief or to food banks and animal shelters, often go unnoticed until they are picked up by local news. Taylor lives a life of genuine kindness without expectation of public acclaim.

Our community is a testament to Taylor’s influence. We come from diverse backgrounds yet share a common appreciation for what Taylor stands for. As Swifties, we strive to embody the kindness and cleverness she espouses in her lyrics. Despite facing attacks from various quarters—whether because of her success, wealth, or lifestyle choices—it’s clear that her real impact lies in her ability to inspire and connect people across the globe.

In managing this community, my aim is to provide a sanctuary for those who seek to celebrate Taylor Swift’s work and message, away from the vitriol that often permeates public discourse. We are not just fans; we are a family that looks out for each other, ensuring our space remains respectful and supportive. Let’s continue to uphold these values, encouraging everyone to be their best selves and to find peace, just as we hope for the individual who departed under less than ideal circumstances.
