Once she officially turns pro next week, Caitlin Clark is set to make her debut with the Indiana Fever as the first pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft happening next Monday, April 15th. This heralds a significant moment for the Iowa standout as she joins the Fever, guaranteeing them ample exposure on the national stage.
The WNBA revealed on Wednesday that the Fever will enjoy extensive coverage, with 36 out of their 40 games scheduled for national television broadcasts this season, including 13 exclusively on NBA TV.
“The WNBA announced today the Indiana Fever will play 36 of 40 regular season games on national television during the 25th regular season in franchise history.
The first four games of the Fever regular season schedule will appear on ABC, ESPN or Prime Video platforms. Throughout the regular season, Indiana will play two games on ABC, five games on ESPN, one game on ESPN 2, two games on CBS, one game on CBS Sports Network, eight games on ION, four games on Prime Video and 13 games on NBA TV.”
Although Caitlin Clark’s name wasn’t explicitly mentioned in the announcement, it’s evident that the WNBA is prioritizing the Indiana Fever’s national television exposure in anticipation of her arrival. Clark’s imminent transition to the WNBA is poised to catalyze a historic surge in television ratings and global interest. In her final college basketball season, she boasted impressive statistics, averaging 31.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 8.9 assists per game while maintaining a remarkable 45.5 percent shooting accuracy from the field. Despite the Hawkeyes’ loss to South Carolina in the national championship game, Clark’s performance solidified her status as a game-changing talent.
The Indiana Fever, who finished last season with a 13-27 record and missed the playoffs for the seventh consecutive year, are primed for transformation with Clark’s imminent arrival. As a transcendent talent and the NCAA basketball all-time leading scorer, Clark is poised to elevate the Fever’s performance and propel them into playoff contention. The team’s season opener against Connecticut on May 14 will be broadcasted on ESPN, followed by their home opener against New York on May 16.
